Theresa was booked on this hike with me in February but owing to an MSK injury could not do so. So I hiked alone in February and just had to bring Theresa along to experience this wonderful adventure.
Saturday 5th October roaming in Hobart until Tuesday morning, pre-hike.
Arrived into the Somerset on the Pier where we have stayed before. Caught the reliable Skybus in which drops us literally outside the front door. Then went exploring.
Theresa booked Aloft for dinner (thanks Nicole and Thommo for the heads up). WOW. Chef's choice, excellent food and service, treated ourselves to a very nice bottle of wine.
Spent the next couple of days re-acquainting ourselves with Hobart. Roamed Salamanca place when the markets were on and returned on the Monday to explore the shops without the tourists. Roamed the city and went to lunch at Templo.
A wonderful way to prepare ourselves for our hiking adventure.
Tuesday 8th October - Day 1
Two very excited hikers! We trundled off to breakfast with packs and then up the hill to the Tasmanian Walking Co at 9:30am.
I'll not repeat the TWC gear, the pictures and video will do the talking(!) but here is their link.
Wednesday 9th October - Day 2
Thursday 10 October - Day 3
Friday 11th October - Day 4
Saturday 12th October - post-hike
We tried the Henry Jones Art Hotel. Fabulous. Will definitely return on our next Hobart trip.
The Art Gallery downstairs is missing a Huon Pine entrance table which will arrive shortly in Brisbane!!!!
Our Huon Pine entry table
Jen Bowdal from the IXL Tasmanian Art Gallery very kindly shared these links with us. Huon Pine cannot be harvested in Tasmania so these enterprising businesses are recovering from the waterways.
Huon Pine if the oldest living thing in the Southern Hemisphere. The trees live for 3000 years. It's timber never rots. Here is their link.
